David Clancy
Studio of Fine Art
The whales frolic, the salmon leap, the eagles soar and the bears growl. Sculpting rough stone, mainly jade, marble soapstone and casting in bronze, Canadian artist David Clancy transforms these wildlife subjects into sleek works of art.
"I'm thrilled when I receive a card from a collector, telling me how much they appreciate my sculpture," says Clancy, "it means I have successfully captured the essence of the subject and created a treasure for people to enjoy."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in Toronto in 1950, David attributes his love of nature and inspiration for his early works to summers spent in Northern Ontario on Lake Nipissing. By the age of thirteen he was painting in oils and at 16 had received his first commission. At 19, he entered the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University), where he studied painting, lithography and sculpture. Since graduating in 1972, he has concentrated on carving jade, marble and other natural materials. David’s sculptures have been commissioned by private collectors around the world including the President of Korea and King and Queen of Sweden and sought by corporations such as Merril Lynch and Mohawk Oil. In 1988 he was asked to lead a workshop for artists on Baffin Islands in the Northwest Territories. He has been teaching in his community for over 30 years with some students moving on to have their own careers as artists. David and his wife live in a seaside community outside of Vancouver close to their children. “I feel blessed to be living and working surrounded by nature and everything I need to be creative.”
